Kane Lafortune, a Junior Quarterback at Niceville High School is the Week 9 scoutSMART Florida Player of the week. Kane set a school record for touchdown passes in a game with 7 TDs in the first half of the game against 5-2 Tallahassee Leon.

Kane, who has a 4.3 GPA, plans to major in either business or engineering in college. He enjoys golfing and hanging out with friends.

Jaydan “Jaybo” Jenkins, a senior at Middleburg High School, is the scoutSMART Florida Player of the Week.  Jayden plays multiple positions including Quarterback, Running Back and Defensive Back. He led the Broncos to the state’s largest come-from-behind victory with a 35-33 victory over Clay (Green Cove Springs).  The Broncos were down 33-14 at halftime. Jayden had more than 150 yards passing, 50 rushing yards, and two TDs while also playing defensive back.

Michael McClenton, a Sophomore DE at Ocoee High School is the Florida player of the week for September 1st, .In a win over Wekiva, Michael disrupted the offense with 20 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.  Michael also volunteers to help kids learn football over the summer at a football clinic with a local pastor.

Congratulations to Westminster Academy’s linebacker Michael (Mikee) Varga for being voted scoutSMART’s Top Florida High School Player for Week 3.

The sophomore helped lead his team to victory on Friday, Sep 09, 2022 over St. Brendan Christian with 7 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 Forced Fumbles and Fumble Recovery. Varga was also named MAXPREPS Overall Player of the Game for his performance. In the team’s most recent game against SLAM Palm Beach, Varga put up impressive numbers with 11 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 sacks and 1 INT.

The impressive young player has a bright future ahead of him. After completing his freshman season at Coral Springs Charter School, Varga transferred to Westminster Academy where he is clearly proving himself to be a valuable and influential player on the team’s roster.

“Michael plays the game with a lot of energy and passion. He is an old-school type of player who loves to hit,” Westminster Academy’s Head Coach Ehren Wallhoff said. “I love having him on our team because he is a tough nose football guy.”

Congratulations to Westminster Academy’s Quarterback Anthony Barbar for being voted scoutSMART’s Top Florida High School Player for Week 2.

The junior captain led his team to victory on Friday, Sep 02, 2022 over Bradenton Christian with 376 yards, 2 TD’s and a 2 pt. conversion. Barbar was also named MAXPREPS Overall Player of the Game for his performance.

The impressive young player received his first D1 scholarship offer from Florida Atlantic University on September 5th, 2022. His ultimate dream is to play football at the collegiate level.

Last season Barbar was named to the Florida Class 2A All-State High School Football Team in February 2022 as QB Honorable mention. In 2021 he was named to FHSAA All-State, All-County and All-Conference QB.

Barbar is a leader on and off the field. When he is not working on his footwork and mechanics with his teammates and coaches, he works diligently to give back to his community, to better himself and walk in humility and selflessness. In his free time, Barbar volunteers with both Food for the Poor and Homes United. He is also a member of Ignite Student Leadership, Gallaway Student Leadership, and completed the Youth Leadership Broward program.

When asked what sets him apart as a leader, he said, “Being a leader is the most important part of my job as QB. Being a leader means serving my teammates and encouraging each of them to be the best they can be.” He worked hard in the offseason with his coaches to grow as a player and we are looking forward to watching him and the rest of the WA Lions compete this season.
